I was pleasd with this, when I tried it.
This Golden Label Reserve for me is way overpriced. It’s a bit better than the 18 imo.
It is a $45 blend at best. The nose is pleasant enough. It is white sugar sweet and has a gentle creamy mouthwatering feel to it with a slight smokiness.
That being said. It has a bitterness to it that overpowers the overall taste. Also a very short finish. Not worth the $65-70. Even at $45 I would not buy it. I’d prefer glenlivet 12, or the founders reserve. I’d prefer Johnny walker black and green, Glenmorangie 10. I could go on.

I like it but actually prefer green. As a budget gentle blend, monkey shoulder is pretty good too.
I suppose the judges were basing their judgement on the 'nicest' whisky, not the most 'interesting'. I had the opportunity to blind taste the Blue Label Ghosts and Rare; it was reasonably complex, but not a standout at $525 CDN. The Green Label is my favorite of the few I have had so far, and is very well priced here in snowy Alberta!
Love the 18yo Gold Label. I always thought it was discontinued because Brora stocks got to old.
This one is a nice blend, but with the Green Label being sold for the same price here in France (45 euros).. Well, a real no brainer when you have to choose between both!
I found it to be weak and disappointing… The version I had was bottled at 40% ABV and it cost about $100 CAD. I imagine it would be more to my liking at 43 or 46 % ABV. The Green costs $75 and is much better… I even found the black to be better than this Gold Label. I'm convinced that this Gold Label Reserve is another one of those Johnnie Walker whiskies for people who are not whisky drinkers…
Nice review, Gustav. Hierdie is sekerlik een van die swakker Johnnie Walkers op die mark op die oomblik, net na die Red Label in my opinie. Hoe dit beste blend in die wereld gewen het weet geen mens. Sal dit nie maklik in my bar sien nie.
Good review. All the ones found in Texas are mostly 40% ABV. For that reason I wasn't impressed with it to be the 2018 blended whisky winner. Still at good price though.
Great review. Thank you very much. I tried both Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve and Black label. I like Black label much more than Gold Label. And for me Gold Label Reserve is not near justifying the much higher price. And also I noticed that the flavor of this whiskey becomes barely perceptible in a short period of time, say 15 minutes.
