Hi Bob & Brad! Great video, thanks! Hoping you guys still check out these comments! My question is, you mentioned most of the time the knee cap may be misaligned on the lateral side of the knee so you want to tape it and pull it towards the medial side. However, how do we know which way the knee cap is actually misaligned? Mine feels like its jutted more on the medial side but I'm hesitant to tape it as I'm just not sure.

This makes no sense to me. I tried several kinds of tape. The only time the tape actually holds the knee cap to the inside is when you are sitting and you first put it on. Once you stand on your leg, the force on the cap will push it back in the center. You can't even hold the cap over with your fingers while you stand, unless your leg goes backwards at the knee.

This video helped me figure out I had Patellar tracking disorder (similar to Chondromalacia). They had me do physical therapy for it. Two months into physical therapy, I got right knee pain directly on my Osgood Schlatter ossicle. I taped over ossicle and pain subsided. I rested about a week and went back to exercising. The right knee pain kept coming back so I taped my ankles using kinesiology taping method for plantar fasciitis because I had so many lower leg problems such as shin splints, drop foot and plantar fascitis. With tape on, I noticed my knees felt weak and I could not brake well when walking. So while in a car, I tested out my leg strength by pushing down on my legs. I had trouble pushing down on my right leg. That's when I realized Ossicle Schlatter ossicle was weakening my leg strength. Later on I realized I wasn't using my right leg to get up from ground, couch, or chair. My left leg was doing all work. I could not dip or hold my weight on squats and single-leg squats with my right leg. When throwing out heavy stuff like trash, I could not have the heavy stuff on right side of my body because my right leg couldn't support weight. So I brought electric tape and taped over ossicle (not above it but over it) using a taping method called Crystal Palace Wrap (youtube has plenty of videos), I immediately got some leg strength back with electric tape on (it has to be electric because other tapes are too thick and heavy and will hurt your patellar tendon). I could get off ground, I could dip and hold some body weight on squats, I could hold weight of stuff like trashbag a little longer on right side of my body. I told Orthopedic Doctor this and even brought electrical tape with me to display it to her. She had me do Ultra sound guided knee injection on ossicle. A few weeks later, she approved surgery for Osgood Schlatter. It's fixed my Chondromalacia / Patellar Tracking Disorder along with my fatpad impingement.

Thank you for the wonderful demonstration.
I just want to add something, Quadriceps strengthening exercises with the emphasis on the quadriceps and hip abductors in my opinion are probably the best long-term solution for this condition.

Bob and Brad: you'll hear rice krispies, crunching when you bend
Me: Well I guess this isn't what I have. stand up to get water – hears knee noises OMFG!
Thank you for pointing out the obvious and helping me start to figure this out. The taping was also a brilliant and easy test. I've had this pain come and go for 20 years (since I was 18). Been to my dr. Been sent for x-rays that showed nothing and just told to ice it….I'm hopeful for some relief now.

Thanks for this video. It gave me a good understanding. I had an mri and xray done on my left knee. It turns out the cause of my knee pain is that the groove in my femur is too shallow causing the knee cap to track outward. MD told me the best way to treat this is PT. Thanks again for the video.

  7. adamandlorraine says:

The effect of the taping was an instant relief thanks guys. Now to find out the root cause of this pain. I have been running for 8 months without knee pains, then suddenly this pain has started. I did increase my distance from 5k up to 8/9k

I’m 12 and I have this and my knee always pops I like to call it. It hits the fat pad my doctors tell me and they say it’s because a have a little bit of chondromalacia and my muscles aren’t evened out in my two knees. Does anything help I really can’t stand the pain of it popping anymore and I’m terrified of running because it always pops

When he moved your knee cap around I came out of my skin. That hurts me so much. Going down stairs is a 9 to me I have to walk backwards down my son’s driveway. Up and down stairs is a “ hmm can I not?” Finally I am at $20. Meaning if it isn’t worth $20. Or more it’s not getting pick up off the floor. When I got my hip done I saw about 7 doctors before surgery for it I want to half that for my knees. Why do we get passed around so much. Tesla payments? Pisses me off.
