Thanks SL – a very accurate and comprehensive review. In fact W11 has made some Macish improvements – but – they are still not as integrated, intuitive, user friendly, seemless or as attractive and fun as a . . . Mac. Seriously, still too many "almost theres" and "lose ends" to be any reason to join the PC majority crowd if you truly understand the cros platform effecientcies of a . . . Mac. BTW I am speaking from a position of being lifetime PC/Windows user until two years ago when I stuck my toe into the Mac ecosytem when I retired. However, W11 actually makes it tolerable, somewhat, if you absolutely have to take the uglier sister to the dance.
That intergrated Teams app sucks because it does not work with work or school account.
I'm semi convinced the entire win10 settings page is just a skin on top of control panel, and I inevitably end up there if I dig in the settings enough. In general win10 just has pieces from all sorts of bygone era and…I like it. Now windows carries a lot of baggage and where it shows it's never pretty, obviously. I just perceive it as ugliness that results from maintaining backwards compatibility, and I prefer occasional reminders of the early 2000s to breaking changes.
I'm not a big fan of a fancy redesign every so often. I was, and still am, quite sad that some of my favorite games from high school just don't run on whatever flavor of candy modern android is anymore. I'm not a big fan that the place I work uses node 12 which had its life support cut checks watch 2 weeks ago. I somehow sound and feel like an old man in my 20s.
I wish more people adopts Linus Torvalds philosophy on separation of features and bugs, namely "If a change results in user programs breaking, it's a bug in the
kernel [or for this discussion, os, or framework]. We never EVER blame the user programs. … WE DO NOT BREAK USERSPACE!"
I'm a fan of simplification and Windows goes against that. I want my pc to work so I can do WORK and not waste my time fixing it after a normal Microsoft Windows patch. I have mac for everything and sadly need to have a Windows computer for just Star Citizen. That's it only that! Yesterday installed a microsoft update and it is now in a loop. Gave up trying to fix and reinstall Win11 from scratch. Now it says it can't continue and reboots! What a piece of crap.
Just FYI, in Monterey MacOS does alert you if your microphone is in use. A little orange dot will show up next to the Control Centre button in the Menubar. And if you click it Control Centre will open and ID what app is using the microphone. This was introduced into iOS a while back and it's nice they brought it over.

The reason why i hate it is that windows 11 stripped away a lot of functionality in favor of design.
@07:36 "Mac OS copied iOS"? For real man? Those are both Apple's systems and it makes sense that Apple offers the same functionality on their MacOS as they do iOS so that's not considered copying. It's only copying when it's another brand.

I'm a Mac guy and tried Windows 11 and the first thing I said was "why are there ads in the operating system". Even the file explorer had ads for crappy mobile games and other 'sponsored' results. It was just a trashy experience.
The best feature to use on windows 11 is touch its amazing when you use your touch devices with native touch support even some devices wireless display your screen and incorporate a touch experience
Coming from the Mac watching this video was nice to see how much Microsoft has changed Windows with Windows 11. I am still with macOS and plan to always. However, someone at Microsoft is finally getting it right or at least much better – Good for Microsoft and more so for those who own Windows PCs.

Dragging files across another window is a step back on W11, you can't drag files to a minimized windows like B4.

This is a fair review of Windows 11. Is there enough value to convince me not to buy a Mac instead ? No.

I remember watching this video when it came out and rewatching it now, for some reason I remembered you being more critical of Windows 11. As a fellow Mac user I also love Windows 11 and agree with most of your points except I disagree about Vista/7 Aero being bad (I love Aero and Windows 7 is still my favorite version of Windows) and about the centered taskbar (centered makes so much more sense, I hate having it left-aligned).

i didn't like randomly waking up to it yesterday without being asked, but after giving it a shot, it's actually made my PC faster, and i REALLY love the apps drawer in the Start menu, i always hated having my games in the long app list and having to shuffle through every program on my pc to find one, and storing them all on the Desktop, within a folder isn't ideal either, is just messy and i don't like launchers cause they eaither take a while to boot or never work, just being able to collect all kinds of games from across my PC and drop them in there to hit with a single click is the best thing ever.

I have to say Windows 11 looks like it was built on Chrome OS. Even the calendar on the right which is non active is exactly the same on Chrome OS. The dock in the center…..just like Chrome OS. Very similar.
The problem of Windows 11 was never the design, UI or something else in the frontend. The issues are (were) performance and optimazion. As specially on AMD.

The windows key+arrow keys to snap windows has been in windows 10 for years. I also like using win+D and Win+CTRL+left or right arrow to switch between virtual desktops(Spaces)
