Jeremy, what I’m confused about is that I’ve heard that unless your teaching 30-40 sec of time under tension then the muscle won’t have a stimulus for growth. If this is true then how can a set with 3 reps that takes 25 seconds stimulate growth? Or is the 40 sec time under tension not true?
Too much confusion..what should be the rep range for squats, deadlift and bench…anyone pls?
I don’t know if anyone will see this. But I’m quite troubled. I got my goal to do 3×20 curls, trícelo extension and side lifts adding 5 pounds on each dumbbell every two weeks and every Omni th once I reach 30lb. I got to 15, other exercises are fine but I can’t even get to doing 20 reps of lying triceps extension in a row. Not even one set. I’m thinking of switching to 3×5 for strength training instead but I’m scared thinking “How in the hell does doing less reps give you more strength?, if we both can lift 10lb but I can do more I’m stronger right?” So I’m having doubts. Any recommendations?
I have tried it all and personally feel it all works you just need to shock your body dont let adapt and that means changing rep range and weight and exercises . I mean you can do the same thing a few workouts but you need change it if you feel you stop making progress.
This man spent time disproving the hypertrophy rep range and then went into why it makes sense…
I did low reps for as long as I can remember and recently switched to higher reps and my muscle size exploded, it's as if I took steroids or something lol
I can see 6 to 8 or 10 to 12. but 6 to 12? That is too big of a gap. That's 5 whole extra reps. count em 7, 8, 9, 10, 11..
As P.T I find 4-6 week program switches are grande. Starting with 15reps over 3 sets high muscle endurance phase. Next 4 weeks 12 reps by 3 sets hypertrophy. Then go low with 4 reps 85-90 1RM. Use all the energy systems from fat to lactic to carbs. Just my personal point of view
its not true , best is to make 20-30 reps , with 20-30 reps you wil even loose more fat , i train many years to max reps , that meand , do so many reps you your boody can do ,dont stop at 10 reps if you can make 20 max , you need to push your bood to its limit
No need to complicate. Start with your lower rep weight, eg. 5×5, and work your way up to 5×15. Then increase the weight and repeat.
I use 8 reps per every workout with suitable weight but use higher amount of sets.
Basically, higher rep = more size, not as much strength. Lower rep = more strength, not as much size. But it’s good to use both
At seventy-seven years of age, I usually do three sets of twenty Reps. for most routines. However, when doing some major routines, I tend to do five sets of twenty and increase the weight of the dumbbells by five lbs. after each Rep. I find this helps me prevent any injury or muscle ache.
Much of what you've said makes real sense. All rep ranges work and we should experiment with them as we go through our lifting life. It is certainly easier to get injured with heavy low rep work. It's smart to include higher rep programs at least part of the year. I'd suggest sticking with higher reps for joint killers like tricep extensions, for instance. 20 rep squats are brutal but they work and are great for short programs. I wouldn't want to do them for extended periods.
I disagree with your ideas about volume and heavy, low rep work. If you're doing sets of 3 you get a lot more out of the first rep than you get out of the first few reps of a set of 10. Three sets of 10 works very well but you certainly don't need 10 sets of 3 to get adequate stimulus. 3-5 sets of 3 will give you all you need to make fine progress.
I've been addicted to the 'iron pills' for 51 years now and I think I've learned a few things along the way. Hard work, good form and consistent training are the keys.
put dis on 1.25× speed to save time
Fuck you all
Jesus Christ is lord and savior amen
i usalluy do between 8-12
I do 12 weeks 8-12 reps then 12 weeks 6-8 reps while keeping the exercises the same. Will only change the exercise once I stop making progress in those rep ranges
I think no matter what science says you're going to find that people will reject it in favor of what ever they have been pushing for the last 20 years. Because people are to petty to admit they might have been wrong that whole time , and everybody thinks they are a guru. The sad part is most of these same people will never bother to apply any new knowledge because it would kick them in the ego if it held true.
Every set completed will and should include almost all approaches and all the little tricks you know. Hi reps, low reps, super sets, drops, eccentric, rest and pause blah blah.. Every session will include all of these things.. Every excercise can include a majority of combinations through refining your training over the years.. I don't really have one vs the other attitude much when chasing failure..
I came up with this idea myself before i even researched it lol
Anyone else get suddenly motivated to work out after watching these videos?
Just work out.
So I have a question about which approach is better.Lifting heavier weights over time or doing the rep range periodization:
1 month lower rep range/heavy weights
2 month moderate rep rage/moderate weights
3 month high rep range/lighter weights?
Which one is a better for building muscle? Probably a stupid question but it doesn't hurt to ask.
Or is it everyone puts on muscle differently. My range has always been 3×12 or 3×20. Much more effective for me 25 years ago and was chiseled like a statue with in my mind, freakish strength. At 45 keeping my strength and muscle endurance is crucial, any hypertrophy is a benefit. Not so chiseled anymore not as strong but still getting after it.
Who gives a f@$@ lift your weights every day. Everyday… that is the true reason people get big.
High reps lower weight caused massive gains for me.
how impressive is UFpwrLifter tho
Honestly, as long as I gain a reasonable amount of strength either way…I chose maximizing muscle size/volume over maximizing strength 10 times out of 10. Unless you're a training to become a professional athlete, or power lifter, there is literally no point in sacrificing muscle growth to maximize strength gains…
Most of the guys I see screaming that light weight, high rep is best look like they are doped. So, either high-rep works wonders like a marfarker, or it works for guys who work out with Captain America.
