On the AP you include the symphysis pubis which is not required. Collimation should have the SIJs on the bottom of the exposed field. That will exclude the ovaries. Straight tube for the lateral will mean you will get a perfect projection one in 3 times through luck. A better approach is to raise the shoulder and the hip the patient is resting on, then angle the tube perpendicular to that curve. The positioning for th spot has exactly the same geometry as the lateral. In other words, check the lateral and if it works, just angle and collimate. If L5S1 is not shown accurately on the lateral lumbar, check the angle and the patient and you will know if the angle is slightly more or slightly less. The idea of doing radiography using centring points and 'how many fingers' will ensure no practitioner will ever master the craft.
Wouldn’t you angle the tube for the L5 S1 ?
Thk u sir
Pain is describe commonly on VAS score….
Thank you for taking the time to teach because very few of us do but I would request a more organic explanation than just memorization of book requirements. Acquiring "x-ray vision" isn't and can't easily be explained in a textbook.
For an x ray like this would you have the patient put on a lower lead apron or no?
No shielding, terrible collimating.
Thank you!
