  1. Franco Ikari says:

I understand perfectly how important it is to play Trails games but it's quite complicated for those who only have one console. For example, I won't be able to have contact with Sky for a long time. I started with Cold Steel and I don't regret it. For more foreshadows, references, events and characters from other versions, you can enjoy the game calmly. On the one hand I can even understand why the choice to take Zero and Azure, because the characters in this series have a leading role in Reviere so they took the opportunity to launch it now. If I can buy it, I might understand better certain tickets, but I think it's possible to start with anyone. If one day they launch Sky for consoles, things get better, I think it's important to buy these games and help the franchise

  2. Mordacain says:

Thank you for the video; it really provides some excellent advice! I recently started playing Cold Steel on a lark during a camping trip and got sucked in. However, once I looked up the series I was a little worried I had ruined the experience. For now, I think I'll continue to play CS I & II and then double back to start the Sky arc. Here's to hoping there is a Falcom bundle during the next Steam sale!

  3. RaifSeverence says:

    If I remember correctly
The whole reason Sky SC released on PSP at all is because Xseed didn't want to let the fans would played it there first down by not releasing the conclusion to the story. They didn't release 3rd on psp because there wouldn't have been any return on investment. (I do believe Trails SC performed poorly on PSP after all)
They saw it as kind of a dick move to all the people who kept the hype alive for Trails since after Fc released and didn't perform nearly as well as they projected, Falcom was hesitant to spend the resources needed to let anymore Trails games get localized. It was Xseed convincing Falcom to release Trails Fc on PC (which is just a localized version of the original PC version of Sky FC) coupled with all the "where's SC" comments anytime Xseed would release any promo material for any game that wasn't Trails related that let Falcom know there is a market in the West for games of this nature.

  4. Eries Aston says:

I´m playing a Trails game every couple of months, my last one was Cold Steel 1 in July. I don´t care about the cliffhanger, after completing almost everything in that game, I needed a break. I´m going to take it slow.

  5. Caleb Oden says:

I definitely agree with your recommended play list. I originally played CS 1+2, realizing late that I should've started with Sky. I don't like playing games on PC because I'm illiterate for modding and setting up beyond a mouse. I finished Sky FC earlier this year and will be beating SC by the end of this year. I'll play Sky 3rd the first half of next year, then Zero when it comes out later in 2022. Then Azure early 2023 hopefully. I already have CS 3 + 4 which I can then attempt to beat before Reverie, but the games are so massive I am content with 2/year. I don't recommend trying to rush them all. The games will be there and we are going to be behind the Japanese release for a while. Plus if you're playing other games in between, you'll have time for that and hopefully avoid burnout.

  6. Donovan Perez says:

I don't understand why people are getting so worked up on what order you should play the games or if you're going to like it at all. Bottom line I believe is that if you truly love world building games, and great action and role playing then I think this series is a great start. I started playing this series during Cold Steel 1 and I never knew that there was more than meets the eye. I loved the story of that game and I got extremely attached to all of the characters. I love how this series caught my eye and I will forever be grateful. Just have fun while playing! Its a great series to get into.

Also thank you for the extremely informative video. I enjoyed every moment of it and it actually helped me out a lot as to what is going on because I was starting to get confused in my own thoughts trying to figure out the story lol.

  7. Amaror2 says:

With the pixelation of the thumbnail, the metal behind Kevin looks the same color as his shirt. With that perspective and pixelation it looks like the metal part is part of his shirt and he looks like he is massively stacked.

  8. Sinom says:

Also. When playing the trails in the sky games, turn off interpolation (the "point" option in the settings" it makes the game look really good, even nowadays. With a few added shaders the game could literally have been released this year and not look out of place. (it's pretty sad that the ui isn't static so you can't really use reshade for anything except screenshots)

  9. Sinom says:

So after putting it off for a while (pretty much since you started talking about them on twitter… which was over a year and a half ago now… ouch…) I now finally started Trails in the
Sky following your advice to "talk to every NPC regularly". Yeah don't. I
talked to almost every NPC everytime their text changes and have now
after over 15 hours finally finished the prologue… And the game has 4
more of them… and that's only the first of 3 games… Yeah this takes a
    while…
Because every area seems to have over 30 characters and they pretty much
all change their dialogue every tiniest thing you do in the main story,
and some even if you do side quests… On top of that some characters
actually have additional dialogue if you talk to them again, but not
all, so if you want everything you have to click on all of them twice… and if they do have two lines of dialogue, they often but not always have a third…

  10. BattleToads says:

Spent the past year playing every single game. Love the gameplay, love the story, but it is all for naught. The climactic moments that you have invested hundreds of hours into are RUINED because Falcom had to insert shitty anime tropes and high school titty jokes. All of the important battles can be summed up like this "You're the bad guy and I'm the good guy, but I'm gonna win 'cause these are my friends!" It is just the cringiest thing I've ever seen and it pisses me off. This story is dark, mature, and complex. The childish, incel-fueled energy flowing throughout the entire universe makes it a parody of itself. This should have been a manga or anime. It's obvious that's what they were going for. (yes I know there's some anime stuff of it, I've seen it. It is cringe personified.)

  11. BlazingEmber66 says:

I started Sky FC in March and I'm currently at the end of Act 1 of CS2 and what a wild journey it has been going through 6 of the 9 localised games. I really don't regret any of it and I urge everyone who can to try it, there's never been a better time to get into Trails especially now Zero and Azure are getting localised. You don't have to finish them all in even a year; take your time with it, don't get burned out, treat it like a true adventure. The story, atmosphere, MUSIC, characters, and so much more won't disappoint. I do recommend starting with Sky FC. CS1 and 2 may be 3D and dubbed which makes them appealing but the Sky and Crossbell games are pure awesome, they're not only better games IMO but you'll be starting from the very beginning.

I know I'll be seeing this journey through to the end as I finish CS2-4, Reverie and Kuro when they're localised, and whatever games that come next. Now that's out of the way, time to binge the rest of the video!

Edit to say, I've just finished this. Thanks for the vid and here's hoping some new fans start playing and join us on this wild adventure.

  12. Charles Trudel says:

you are right that we live in a worldwide release for jrpg even some more obscure ones. but, Atlus is possess by sega and Falcom is still less big the nippon ichi software or even idea factory. that may be why we dont get same day worldwide release. (Marvelous also does that to some of its games, they themselve are quite small.)

  13. AdamTheGameBoy says:

If you don't do emulation or PC gaming, start with Cold Steel 3, it is great at summarizing previous events without going into too much detail, so you will be able to play Cold Steel 1 and 2(and the Crossbell arc) with the mindset of them being prequels and not be that spoiled… also the endgame WILL hook Xeno fans.

  14. Will C says:

Great video however I feel like you tried to simplify some stuff a bit too much because at some points I lost you, but one can still understand so Im basically nitpicking for some reason

  15. Sim D says:

Pro Guide – play till 2nd game of Crossbell arc and feel sad how they never made another one. But at least they ended it on the amazing game. God i wish i could forget Steel existed and could get all time i wasted trying to give it a chance back.

  16. Ghaleon says:

I believe kondo said the series was about 50% done after cold steel 2 NOT reverie. Also, sky FC was not originally a psp game, it was originally a pc game then ported to the psp (in Japan).

That being said, Falcom is hilariously bad at ending a series/game when they expect to and end up making more games to compensate instead of just cutting it short soo… maybe it really is 50% done now and Falcom just doesn't even know it yet lol (Id prefer that tbh)

  17. yojimbo26 says:

I'm not sure I agree with that you absolutely must start with Sky1st instead of CSI. The pc controls are less intuitive in my opinion and there are limited battle options. The reason that CS games are easier is because they give you much more options in battle mechanics and quartz to build optimal builds to breaking the game with. The graphics of Sky aren't that great either if you compare them to the Crossbell games. Yes CSI is dated but it is still largely better then Sky1st, especially for newer players not used to old timey jrpgs.

But last not but not least, the Liberl games are BARELY referenced in CSI even if you hit the library and read the newspapers. The crossover only starts with CSII and that's with the Crossbell games not Liberl. The first time I'd say you even get hit with Liberl in a major way is in bloody CSIII when ol' Tita en Agate come rolling around. But by then I reckon that if you digged CSI and CSII you might've checked out the old timers already hungry for more.

Lastly I don't know how much SCIII is worth it. A big dungeon crawl that you play for essentially 3 moon doors (one for Renne, one for Ollie concerning our boy Osborne and one for Ouroboros) and the story of Kevin which even Falcom doesn't care about anymore lol. I think a lets play is good enough unless heavily discounted or something. Because the rest is mini games and some nice backstory of characters you already more then know.

  18. Mike Sharpe says:

As a Switch CS3+4 owner, I'll start that there is a demo of CS3 on PS4/Switch/PC, if you want to test it out. It's first area two areas on CS3, so there will be spoilers for the older games. It's above the Vita/PSTV output in terms of quality, and seems better after playing with Vita's 20FPS.

I encountered a few Graphical glitches in a few areas of the game and the frame drops aren't game breaking for me.

I did a review of CS3 on my site and I even gave it a spot on my top 10 games played in 2020.

  19. Keoni Marcelo says:

By the Time This Video was Uploaded, I already Dubbed The WHOLE Cold Steel Series from 1 to 4, Start to Finish, At this Point, I'm waiting for Trails into Reverie to Come to America so I can see what this Segment is about

  20. Starcat5 says:

I completed FC in early spring, only to realize that I forgot to Double Check one chest (in bold, as in to take the item out of the chest, then look at it again). I repeat: I opened every chest, but I didn't get the relevant achievement because I didn't look at ONE CHEST a second time, with no clue where I ****** up. Meaning that I would need to NG+ the entire game solely for the purpose of Double Checking EVERY SINGLE CHEST! …suffice it to say, after not playing the game for half a year in frustration, my current plan is to simply import someone else's completed save into SC, then do a cleanup pass between CS2 and 3 while I wait for the translations to drop.

  21. asaka616 says:

I will say, Cold Steel I is best starting point. You don't lose out on much from not playing previous games first. And it's a good test for players in that, if you like Cold Steel I, you'll love all games in the series.

  22. Hansiger Obba says:

For everyone that complains about the length of the games. Please just use turbo button for almost everything. Cuts half the time from 100 to 50 or more while the ingame timer still says 100 or so. And not every NPC dialogue is required if you dont want to.

  23. Vegesther says:

Even by the time Kuro No Kiseki and its sequels do get a PS4/PS5 dub that won't happen until 2025 as the earliest and by then Japan will still be 3 to 4 games ahead and will likely start to make PS5 only games.

  24. N.T.P. says:

Ah, Trails. I finally played through Sky FC & SC earlier this year during my quarantine when I caught COVID and I instantly fell in love with the series. So far I’ve also finished Sky The 3rd and Zero Evolution since I’m half Japanese and am in the middle of CS1 (I felt like if I played Ao immediately after Zero, I’d get burned out). I’m down to seeing more Trails content on this channel.

  25. Abhishek Venkat says:

I did not enjoy this video and is not probably for me as I have finished the series but didn't like you injecting your opinions (Probably from Falcom Discord/ Reddit). Let new fans make their own opinions. The only thing which was ok was the content warning regarding siblings and star door 15. Using community terms like "character bloat" lol was cringey.
