Had this surgery in 2015. And still having pain. Not worth it. Please research for better updated procedures. Had my in San Antonio Tx.. now I'm screwed for life with pain. Dr said pain would go away in four years n still have pain. F*#kin insurance are cheap a**. My problem was I never got an attorney when I got injured at work. So please people get an ATTORNEY ASAP.

Don't get this surgery unless you need it. I mean when you are left with no other choice but surgery. Your life has to be miserable enough to not be able to take it anymore. That is when you will benefit from it. Otherwise you'll regret it. Too many people go under the knife thinking its no big deal. After all, surgeons make it sound like its a walk in the park. Remember they make a ton of money out of it, not you.

i had a 2 level fusion done in 2013…L4/L5/S1 but it was done via the ALIF procedure….basically they went through the front i have a 4 inch scar starting at my belly button….they removed both herniated discs and placed spacers where the discs were and then placed a plate and securing screws over each spacer to prevent further movement…BEST thing i ever did

Invertion table look for it online, no need for operations .As long as you keep decompress your back pain will go away and it is possible to regenerate your disks.
it take about 2 years but it is possible , I have done it good health to all

i'm 18 and i'm already suffering from spinal stenosis. it happened abt a year ago and since then its been very painful and i can't even walk properly. will this surgery enable you to do activities in the future? (like dancing because i'm a dancer)

  8. Martin Mudd says:

had L4 L5 fusion 4 weeks ago , x walking a mile the first week , not as bad as 90 % say on here , keep moving and it keeps soreness down , hardest part is watching someoneelse do your normal daily chores for you and there's only so many shows on tv.

I had this same exact procedure done. Best deduction I did about it. No leg pain the moment I woke up from surgery. I had no pain and even opted out from taking the prescribed pain killers. Recovery is uncomfortable; it took 3 months to make a full recovery, but totally worth it, as I never have any kind of nerve or back pain. I wasted a lot of time and money seeing chiros, physical therapist, and getting epidural shots. If you have a herniated disc, it needs tube fixed surgically. It's 2017, this is a fairly simple procedure nowadays for surgeons. Don't be scared, living with chronic pain and medicated is no way to live.

A month after my initial post I was seen by a Neuro surgeon, upon looking at my MRI he stated, "How are you able to stand this kind of pain" ? He admitted me into Hospital that day and operated the next morning.
He further stated I should have went to the Emergency room during the month I waited, as they would have
admitted me and had a Neuro surgeon on call operate.
I was a fit healthy 215 lb. man, a month later I weighed 170 lbs. .. My advice to anyone with a similar problem don't wait go to the emergency room, as the growth continues to grow it wraps around the sciatic nerve causing pressure and indescribable pain that is different than that from a disc..
Also note, the doctor had not seen the MRI until the day I seen him, why ? Because they don't review
patients MRI until their visit. If you're in this kind of pain don't wait go to the E.R.. I can say without doubt
if I had to wait much longer it would have killed me and I'm not extraditing in the least, some family members stated they hardly recognized me. So remember don't wait get help right away especially if you are elderly or have health issues.
As the doctors reminded me after the surgery this kind of pain can kill you over a prolonged period, it increases your blood pressure that can cause a stroke among other things.
I truly hope I helped someone..

Soon I'll be getting this surgery done. Waiting to meet with the neurosurgeon. Scared, but need relief from the hip and leg pain.Hernated disc at L4 L5 plus spinal stenosis. Had back surgery before L5 S1. Praying that everything goes well. With God all things are possible.

  14. Ishfaq Ahmad says:

    Hi dear all.
Please don't do heavy exercises without any trained coach in the gym .I had this surgery done in this Feb 2015. It was not an easy decision but being a cardiovascular technologist it's make me on a positive way to go ahead for a laminectony at L1 S5 segment I am 30 and now doing okay though it's just recently done but I believe it's gonna be okay in future. So please don't delay it if you are having irregular pains in your legs or leg back or may be neck.

I had this procedure done in 2009 but the doctor did not put in the interbody fusion cages. @UCLA Health the hospital that performed the operation, did not tell me the cages were not used. I found out a couple of years later when I went to a different spine surgeon for advice. UCLA will not tell me why the cages were not used but, as a result, my spine did not fuse and I was left in worse shape than before. I'm now recovering from a second surgery that I believe corrected the mishaps of the first doctor (Duncan McBride). I am hoping for a strong recovery this time and definitely feel like I got a much better result from Cedars Sinai.

I think that one of the things that makes this surgery so dangerous is that it is not easy to research your doctor and get any meaningful reviews of their work. Some reviews of doctors that I read online complained about how long they had to wait when visiting the doctor which is hardly as important as the outcome. Some doctors were rated very highly but the procedures were very simple, not complex and invasive operations such as this. The reviews that I found most useful were those that discussed the complexity of the operation (the procedure, the history of back pain, whether it was a first or corrective surgery, etc.) more than the doctor's demeanor or promptness.

Once you have identified a doctor you may want to perform the surgery, try to talk to other doctors that are familiar with his/her work. Especially any doctors that you already know and trust. That is what gave me the most confidence in choosing my second doctor, whom I went with even though he was not in my insurance network.

  16. Steve Mildge says:

I had S-1, L-5, L-4, & L-3 fused.  It is a very deliberated decision to have such a traumatic and invasive surgery done on ones body, however, the relief of constant pain is very much apparent.  The pain you deal with while recovering is the muscle & other tissue rejoining & healing after a major invasive procedure.  An equitable trade off.

  17. Chris Here says:

6 days post op.  I had a much different experience than DRIPSONE73.  Pain yes, managed with the meds.  Never felt like my spine was going to RIP OUT. That is hyperbole.  I am moving in slow motion, but got on the treadmill and did .25 miles already.  Will work up to .5 today.

Had my done at INOVA Fairfax Hospital in Virginia.

    Best of luck

  18. A73HREE says:

Just did it last tuesday! No way to sugar coat it will be the worst, most debilitating pain u will EVER experience, takes like 15-20 minutes to get out of bed all while feeling your spine is going to rip, outrageous!! Think more than twice before doing it its like giving birth everyday for 2-3 weeks a woman next to me only did l4-l5 and has 3 kids and said she would rather give birth to 3 more in one week than deal with this! Oh and costs 150k to 230k so not cheap, hope everyone thinks about it

  19. Rose Lujano says:

Hope you're doing well and continues to feel better. I'm thinking about having this surgery. Been suffering since 11/09. Can you tell me where this Dr. is located. And how are you doing now? Do you have any regrets?
