I think this is what I have. I can not put weight on my foot. It's intense sharp pain attempting to walk. The bone is swollen on top. The pain shoots from the top, around my ankle, through my arch and back up to the bone.

I must be very unlucky as I developed a stress fracture just by long-distance casual walking in the wrong shoes (Converse All Stars). I just like to take long, relaxing walks and it seems this was enough to cause a stress fracture in my 3rd right metatarsal bone. My symptoms were exactly as you described them and I accessed the ER when I couldn't walk around the house anymore. I had both a negative RX and a negative CT, save for light periosteal reaction around the offended bone. So it was a clinical diagnosis. As I'm not an athlete by any stretch of the term, the orthopedist simply recommended 20 days of non-weight bearing (walking with crutches) and then gradually resuming my activities. I am a medical doctor myself so I was quite angry at myself for not getting the diagnosis right (I was thinking tendinitis).
    Thanks for the clear explanation.

Hi, thanks for a great video 😉 I would like ask you if you have seen stress fractures start hurting only a day after last run. I run aprox. 300 KM a month and ran an easy 20 KM Sunday and Monday my left food started to hurt a lot. I think 2nd Metarsarsal as the pain comes from there. Now I can barely walk. It doesnt hurt while I am resting. Thank you in advance. Best regards Anders

I did a handstand and fell down and landed on my toes they went backwards. It automatically felt like I was being stabbed in the foot it’s been about a week and I’m still in pain (the pain goes from my toe to my ball of my foot). I can barely walk and can’t afford to pay to get checked Any help

What if I got stepped on when a girl jumped and landed on my during a soccer game. It happens about 2 months ago… I kept playing in that game but I just recently got stepped on 2 more times this past game. I also have what feels like a small calcium deposit on my foot on my second metatarsal ( I think… the one next to my big toe) toward the top. Idk but its bothering me to walk now and it hurts to touch it… I have about a month and a half left so I'm gonna deal with it then get checked out. hope I dont brake it

I used to train and run marathons but then I stopped for 6 years. Late last year I restart my running to lose weight and in December I increased my mileage to 110 miles per week. Unfortunately I tried to run through the pains, which went away after running, eventually my pain got worse and stay even after my run. I am now have to stop running totally, and turned to cycling to keep losing my weight. Thanks for the advise and information in the video.

I have been dealing with my injury for almost 10 months now. I am a dancer and i was rehearsing and i landed a jump with my second toe curled under and the third toe partially curled under. The pain hit me instantly and at first i thought i broke second toe but after a few minutes i was convinced it was just bruised. I was able to walk with no issues and it would only hurt if i stepped a certain way. I continued to dance and it hurt some but it wasn't terrible. Every time it would start to heal, i seemed to re-stub that same toe. (on the bed post, a chair, etc.) I continued to dance on it for 5 months and of course it just kept gradually getting worse. The pain was initially just in my toe and then it started to spread up the foot. I finally went to the doctor and the x ray showed that i had sprained the two toes and stretched the second metatarsal. I stopped dancing but it still wasn't healing at all. It's been 5 months since i stopped dancing, and the doctor had me buy some tennis shoes with good arch support. I went for a follow up a few weeks ago and he couldn't believe it wasn't improving. He did an MRI which showed that i had fluid buildup in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th metatarsal due to a stress fracture. He said he couldn't believe i wasn't in even worse pain than i am. From what i am learning about stress fractures, i am assuming that part developed when i continued to dance on my sprained toes. The doctor put me in a surgical shoe and said that if it doesn't start healing on its own, it may lead to surgery, which i really hope is not the case. It is also my driving foot. I try to not drive as much as possible, but there are certain things i can't avoid like driving to work. 🙁 I am so ready to dance again and so worried i won't be able to.

I have a metatarsal bone fracture on my left foot, I did posted a video. According the x-ray result, nondisplaced and no dislocation, I am wondering how long it will heal? I wore a boot for a day but I stopped because it seemed hurt wearing it, so I just wear tennis shoes.

  9. Yi'en Liu says:

I have had a series of injuries that have been happening for more than 8 months now and I’ve been unable to run for 7 months. The most annoying thing about my injuries is having the healing process reset every time I do any type of exercise that has stress on my legs. Another annoying thing that happens is getting injured again in a different spot only a week or two after the previous injury heals, and this has been going on for a very long time.

  10. ForHisGloryMinistry says:

So I developed a metatarsal stress fracture on the top of my left foot almost 2 months ago, from misdirected use of Planet Fitness' Body Enhancement machine. Basically, the trainer who gave me the demo for this machine told me to move around on the vibrating plate to work different muscle groups. This is most definitely wrong advice, as one should not move , nor lock the knees during the plates vibrating. This ill advice caused my injury. I later got a misdiagnosis from an orthopedic surgeon at a Cleveland Clinic off campus, who diagnosed me with tendinitis. I didn't agree & got a 2nd opinion from another orthopedic surgeon, who did an MRI. The 2nd doctor diagnosed me with a metatarsal stress fracture. I am now in process of getting the Freedom brace. This brace gives you a 100% non-weight bearing, allowing you to still be able to walk & get around. My insurance will even cover this device with a prior authorization through the in network durable medical equipment company. I would highly recommend this brace for anyone who needs to have non-weight bearing to heal. Upon reading these comments I thought my story might help some one else. Christ's many blessings to you!

  11. Susan Veihman says:

I am a HIIT Group Fitness Trainer and our gym recently went barefoot. I have been training this way for a couple of months and recently moved a heavy plate rack (on wheels) barefoot. Top of foot at the 2nd metatarsal is painful when pressed and/or squeezed . Plantar flexion, stepping down and walking in general are painful and obviously plyometrics. Suspected stress fx but negative xray. In a boot for now.

  12. Hopeful One says:

You ask us to comment but don't reply on here, I found that odd. The challenges I'm facing: 1) It wasn't clearly told to me what type fracture I have- I still don't know if it's a Jones, or at the shaft, or what have you 2) if I am doing weight lifting (yes I've modified the moves so I am either sitting or lying on a mat) the getting up from the floor part is always hard, also if I am doing the bathtub soak, getting up after that without straining my foot. 3) it's the conflicting info- my doc says I must wear this boot ti I see him in three weeks, yet a PT doctor on youtube is telling me she thinks it's overkill considering I don't have any displaced bones. I feel better walking around, buddy taped on the carpet, than I do in the boot, as it's affecting my knee.

  14. FromthePalouse says:

I had ankle stablization surgery and ever since I have had problems with stress fractures in the 4th and 5th metatarsals. Is it possible that the surgery for my ankle is contributing to my constant foot pain and stress fracture issues?
