My neighbor did this to me. I ordered & planted 15 thornless blackberry bushes. I planted them down the fence line, keeping 2 1/2 feet from the fence/property line. I had planned to go back and put a small picket fence between their chain link fence and the blackberries. Well I didn't get a chance. I also have crepe myrtle trees down the fence line further toward the property. When I put those in they had a privacy fence. Well they sprayed commercial roundup (he works at a park were I am sure he secured the commercial grade) It killed my blackberries…almost $300 worth of plants. I was told that any chemical in the air or that soaks into the ground root system will kill three more feet from where it was applied. I put grass clippings up against the fence and flood water the trees daily hoping to dilute any spray that might have touched the ground. The blackberries were dead within 24 hours. I mentioned to this neighbor that I am chemical free in my yard and that she should read those labels as we are both cancer survivors. I can put the black plastic up like the road crews do to hold back erosion, think they will get the hint, but know of nothing to keep it out of the ground root system. Any suggestions. I had to bite my tongue as the old saying goes and be nice. I have had this neighbor for 20 years. I live on former farm land, in 20 years I have not seen an earth worm…property DDT in the soil.

Feel your pain! i went through a similar situation a few years ago on my land our county departments sprayed for mosquitoes and sprayed about 150 foot section of land on my private road entrance that they claimed was wet marsh harboring mosquitoes, yes there was cattails and some wet area but its a free flowing creek that feeds into a larger pond bout 1/2 mile back from the road like you i had wild edibles and bees near the area i lost 2 hives and was told it was not there fault , after a lengthy battle i won a small settlement and got things straight but it aggravated me that they did not bother to look where they sprayed and the dangerous chemicals used were not necessary as the so called mosquito problem was not there cause of  small fish in the creek and my grooming of the areas vegetation and water flow

    Dear sir,

If the only chemical they sprayed was roundup, you and your land will be fine. If you would like those plants to come back, try disturbing the soil. They will come back from seed without disturbance but it happens faster with it. Disk the entire area, If there are mature seeds from those desired species in or on the ground the disturbance will make them germinate faster.

The seed from the fruit you held will come up if the fruit was mature. If they aren't mature then they wont. Roundup alone wont sterilize the seed.

Roundup wont hurt your bees. I've seen hives that have had roundup sprayed all around them to keep from weed eating. The bees were fine. Roundup only kills plants.

It seems to be a common misconception that Roundup will hurt humans and animals because it kills plants so well. It doesn't, it attacks the plant in a way that only plants can be attacked.

"Commercial grade" roundup means that it was probably "roundup max" which means it can be rained on after 30 minutes and not be washed off. It doesn't make it more or less potent, it makes it less susceptible to rain washing it away.

Increasing the amount of roundup only waste roundup. It doesn't make things more or less dead. Therefore there isn't much difference between the Walmart roundup and the farmers roundup. Walmart just mixes it with water for you so they can sell you a spray bottle mostly filled with water.

I'm not going to get in an argument over Monsanto and their evilness I'm simply telling you how you can maybe get those species back in that area. And not to worry too much about being hurt by the roundup. There are far worse chemicals being sprayed in the AG industry than roundup. Roundup gets a worse name for safety than it deserves because of it association with Monsanto and GMOs

It ain't just your power company. Google has sold advertising for Big Agra GMO and herbicide companies that are playing before your videos. And you can't skip them either.

  5. TraderRoss says:

I have a herbicide spray license,  glyphosate is a pretty clean herbicide to use. you can spray land, water it doesn't hurt wildlife, fish. while we get it concentrated at 53% solution it gets watered down to 3% that we spray which is a lot less than most homeowners spray at. I have bee's & plants so I understand you concern. Hopefully you can work something out with letting it grow up a little.

Reading some of the comments, it's interesting that people would blame employees for following instructions and doing their jobs.  We, as land owner's, need to know what signing a right of way release entails and to become proactive.  You were proactive but after a situation had occurred.  I too have learned from prior experiences and treat the right of way areas as no man's land.  Also, what confuses the issue even more is the agency one is dealing with ~ state, city, county or utilities.

  7. Tracy Fredrychowski says:

What a shame and I have seen people post signs to ask to have areas not sprayed with out being contacted first.  I hope your power company puts something in place and then maybe others will follow!

  8. loganv0410 says:

    Reality Break
The sprayer was probably a contractor who gets paid per acre sprayed and has a strong monetary incentive to "fail to see" your sign.
OTOH if anything like that happens again call the Fed EPA and make those parasites earn part of their pay in attacking the local utility for spraying onto a body of water.

  9. Cherry Downs says:

The sad thing about this is VINEGAR WORKS AS SUCCESSFULLY AS GLYPHOSATE to kill foliage! I know this is a fact because vinegar is what I use on my little midtown "farm" to kill grass growing between bricks!

  10. Cherry Downs says:

You are to be commended for using so much restraint! If I may make a suggestion would  be to write to you State Reps. and State AG Dept.Demanding this practice stop! And have as many of your friends as possible do it too!  How much effort/expense would it have taken to use a mower?  This is a perfect example of how ignorance and laziness is ruining this planet.  I cannot believe how ignorant AND lazy companies have become. Glyphosate causes multiple health problem, scientifically proven! The break down of glyphosate can be as long as a year and I shudder to think of that going into a lake!!! I feel so sad that this happened to you, I am outraged and I expose these atrocities every chance I get so is it OK if I show this on FB? We need to get the word out there to stop this nonsense. There is a movement, March Against Monsanto ( manufacturer of glyphosate) that is exposing Monsanto and their thuggish company practices.. Glyphosate is being banned all over the world why not America? Answer; because our Government is loaded with ex Monsanto employees. Does 2+2=4? . But we consumers/tax payers have the power in numbers, votes and our pocketbooks to stop it and we must; to PROTECT THE CHILDREN  and this planet from the exploiters/polluters like Monsanto et al.

Maybe you can persuade your Utility Company to adopt this policy. We need to get all of our neighbors to sign up as well.
Sorry I could not find a link that would help, but maybe by calling they can give you some help with your situation.

  12. Betty says:

Please take pictures of the after. If you don't have before and during pics…can you get them off these videos? You probably already know to follow up with the power company and the state agriculture dept or organic gardening group. Get some sort of written promise from Power to post with your sign. What about a light screen, just to call attention to the idea of use and care there. Three years is a long time for sprayers. Maybe, go to your Miss. Representatives to see if they can help and also get public support by sending copies to the newspaper. It is a lot of time! But the dividend potential is great. Especially for your bees. I pray you do well, and thank you for offering up your experience.

  13. Jonathan Sterling says:

Sorry for the loss of your endeavors, it is a shame.

I suppose the kicker is that we live in a civilization of go, go, go… we don't stop to look and use critical thinking to observe our surroundings.

Thankfully you sound like there is a possible solution in need of pursuing.

    God bless.
